British Association for Counseling and Psychotherapy
Send your application to the NPI Enumerator through regular mail. Send your completed application, as well as any copies of identification you may have, to the address indicated at the bottom of the application. It will take at least 10 days from the day on which the NPPES receives your application before you will be assigned an NPI number.
How to Apply
Using this NPI, counselors will no longer need to use the numerous provider identification numbers (ID numbers supplied by insurance companies) that they have been using to charge insurance companies and managed care organizations. As a result, each counselor will only have one unique identification number (the NPI), which will be used by all insurance and managed health care companies.
How to Apply for a National Provider Identification Number (NPI). Please call the NPPES customer service hotline at 800.465.3203 to request a paper application form if you want to submit a paper application rather than online.
The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a ten-digit number that is assigned to each and every health-care provider or organisation that applies for it.It will take the place of existing provider identification numbers, such as Medicare’s Unique Physician Identifier Number (UPIN), that have been issued to health care professionals by government and private insurers for use in billing procedures.
An insurance company will require a National Provider Identifier number by May 23, 2007, whether the counseling service is provided electronically, through a website, or by paper health care financial assistance (HCFA). Let’s take a step back for a moment and go through the NPI process.
