Reference no. White Lodge is a Grade I listed Georgian house situated in Richmond Park , in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Formerly a royal residence, it now houses the Royal Ballet Lower School, instructing students aged 11–16.
Our students come from across the UK and all over the world and are therefore required to live in boarding houses. Younger pupils live within the grounds of White Lodge, Richmond Park and Upper School students live either in Covent Garden or at our new boarding house in Pimlico.

Ages 14.00-15.11 Boys and girls aged 14.00-15.11 by 31 August 2021 (in school years 9 or 10) Demonstrable commitment to the student of classical ballet and a good technical facility acquired through previous dance training. Girls must be en pointe and able to take part in pointe work training.
Since 1963 it has been the residence of Princess Alexandra, The Honourable Lady Ogilvy. The residence was originally built as two houses in 1673 for two Richmond Park Keepers, as Aldridge Lodge.
What is looked for in the audition? We are looking for students who show talent, musicality and potential and who aspire to a career in classical ballet .
Most ballerinas have very small chests for 2 reasons: The intense exercise regime forces their bodies to incinerate calories, burn fat deposits and increase lean muscle mass. Thus, decreasing bust size by sheer exercise. Ballerinas that are genetically predisposed to being thin will naturally have smaller chests.
Children don’t really start practising ballet in particular properly until the age of 8, before this they are usually learning musicality rather than technique. Maturity and attention span are important before beginning dance lessons. At age 2 children have the motor skills to be able to participate in dance classes.
But the answer is still the same: It’s never too late to start ! I went back to ballet at age 21 , overweight from college life and nervous as hell about returning to something I loved so much and gave up too early.
The Royal Ballet School
The Royal Ballet School is ranked in the top three dance schools in the world . Originally called the Academy of Choreographic Art and was founded by a ballet dancer named Dame Ninette de Valois.
Our full-time courses are for students aged 11-19 years . They begin for the younger students at our White Lodge campus in Richmond Park, where we run a five-year classical ballet course alongside secondary academic studies.
Many professional dancers train at a vocational dance school, with an intensive three-year degree or diploma or a one-year postgraduate course in professional dance or musical theatre. To get on a relevant degree or diploma you may need five GCSEs A-C, including maths and English and science, and at least two A levels.
