There are five gates providing pedestrian access to Isabella Plantation namely Peg’s Pond Gate from the disabled user’s car park , Broomfield Hill Gate , Bramble Gate , Deer Sanctuary Gate and High Wood Gate .
Richmond Park is open to vehicles from 7:00 am in the summer and 7:30 am in the winter. Vehicle gates close at dusk all year round. Pedestrian gates are open 24 hours except during the deer cull in November and February. During these months, pedestrian gates open at 7:30 am and close at 8:00 pm.
While the majority of our playgrounds and outdoor gyms are now open , there is one location which remain closed: Kingston Gate Playground in Richmond Park .
Pools on the Park Richmond Since 1966, Pools on the Park has provided countless people with one of the most holistic leisure facilities in the area. Located just a minutes’ walk from Richmond train station, Pools on the Park lido, is a great spot to watch life go by and enjoy a cooling swim on a hot summer’s day.
Richmond Park has protected status as an important habitat for wildlife and is a National Nature Reserve, London’s largest Site of Special Scientific Interest and a European Special Area of Conservation. Richmond Park is one of London’s eight Royal Parks and covers an area of 2500 acres.
Grass snakes are present in the park and, although a population estimate has not been conducted, juveniles are seen regularly and they therefore breed well. Like all reptiles they are ‘cold blooded’ which means they cannot regulate their own body temperature.

Richmond Park is fully open to cyclists once again, five months after restrictions were put in place. Cycling in the popular west London green space has been limited since March, when park management banned people from riding through the park due to concerns about coronavirus.
Vans and lorries continue to use Richmond Park as a through road, despite a ban that has been in force since at least 1997. When this reporter visited the park on Thursday, August 20, several trade vehicles were driving along Sawyer’s Hill.

A large volume of cyclists , observations of cyclists speeding or without helmets, fears of transmission through exhalation of air and excess burden on the NHS were amongst the key reasons that the Royal Parks made the decision to ban cyclists from Richmond Park , an FOI request reveals.
Don’t take risks with rutting deer , The Royal Parks warns visitors. The Royal Parks is urging visitors to Bushy and Richmond Parks to be extra vigilant and keep a minimum distance of 50 metres away during the annual deer rut.

Upstream of Putney Bridge swimming is allowed but of course when and where is fundamental to safety. Upstream of Richmond Lock the Thames is semi-tidal, and beyond Teddington Lock non-tidal. It took Copenhagen ten years before you could swim in its harbours with confidence.
