For those of you who are interested in becoming a school counselor, here are some further pointers I would provide to my best friend:
The term ″school counselor″ refers to a professional who works in educational institutions of various kinds. It is their job to teach in both public and private institutions, at all levels from kindergarten to postsecondary education. In order to work as a school counselor, you must complete the following education requirements.
School counselors must have a Master’s Degree in Counseling as a minimum requirement. A school counselor must also get a state license and participate in continuing education programs on a regular basis in order to maintain their licensure. Counselor in residence (no. 2) Primary responsibilities: A residential counselor provides assistance to those who are unable to care for themselves.
Guidance counselors in professional school and adult enrichment program settings are typically more focused on the career aspects of counseling, and they may be referred to as ″career counselors″ rather than ″school counselors″ to better reflect the differences in needs of these two types of populations.
